The main objectives include:

  1. Increasing reading speed, comprehension, and reading attention span in a quantitative way. By the end of the school year, the middle school children should have doubled their reading speed and improved their reading skills by one to two grade levels.
  2. Using assistive reading technology to scan and read textbooks and other school materials to enable weak readers to catch up with the general curriculum.
  3. Providing a multi-sensory reading alternative to learning challenged pupils that will help them raise their reading speed to the point where they can read independently.
  4. Assisting learning and reading challenged middle schoolers in remaining in their regular classroom with their peers so that they can study in the least restricted environment possible.
  5. Employ 3 additional reading specialists from the community and upskill teachers through the Training Program for Teachers

Evaluation

By the end of the year, the reading performance of each beneficiary will improve. The success of the will be measured using standard assessments of the 5 major areas which are fluency, comprehension, phonics, phonological awareness, and vocabulary.
